4 out of 5 Native women have experienced violence – 56% of that being sexual violence. In New Mexico, Native women and children experience sexual violence at some of the highest rates. Advocates have been working with survivors of sexual violence in New Mexico for a very long time, and we recognize their hard work and dedication. We are now providing an advanced training for advocates working with Native SA survivors to further their knowledge, capabilities and efforts to end sexual violence in their own communities. Some topics include:
- Data Collection Strategies
- Sexuality after Sexual Trauma
- Trauma and Sexual Assault Offenders
- Understanding Jurisdiction & Civil Justice
- Sexual Violence Programs in Tribal Communities
Attendees will deepen their understanding of the micro and macro levels of sexual violence as a tool of oppression, understand strategies to work effectively with Tribal Nations, identify and promote methods of healing in their own communities.
