About Us

Our mission is to stop violence against Native women and children by advocating for social change in our communities.

Organized in 1996 by three founding Native women, Peggy Bird (Kewa), Darlene Correa (Laguna Pueblo) and Genne James (Navajo), the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) was created to provide support to other Native advocates working in domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and sex trafficking in New Mexico’s tribal communities. CSVANW is excited to share the new logo for the En CSVANW is excited to share the new logo for the Engaging All Relatives Program area! This logo was created by Marcus Trujillo (Laguna Pueblo), a Pueblo Graphic Designer & Illustrator. He is also the owner of Hààtzee Designs and has collaborated with many Pueblo/Native organizations and artists.

Depicted are a hummingbird, flower, and hand signifying the engagement between people, the land and sky relatives. The design surrounding these three images is commonly found in Pueblo pottery designs and represents the lifeline. We recognize that “engaging all relatives” isn’t just between humans but the relationship with our Earth Mother, water, animals, sky, and how we're all interconnected. CSVANW is grateful for Marcus’ artistry and designing a logo that captures this program area, thank you Marcus! Check out more of his work @haatzeedesigns

This means addressing our own internalized biases, deconstructing the gender binary, and cultivating healthy masculinities & relationships. On Friday, July 28th, service providers and commun On Friday, July 28th, service providers and community members gathered at the annual World Day Against Trafficking Resource Fair to discuss and share information about the trafficking crisis in New Mexico and across the nation. Sex Trafficking Prevention Coordinator Pat Gallegos collaborated with LifeLink to put on the event, getting our lived experience survivors lodging and honorariums for their presentations and wonderful MCing. Pat also tabled at the event representing the Coalition, and was able to meet a lot of amazing advocates! Our awesome Land and Body Violence coordinator Celina presented on the Intersections of Land-Body Violence and Trafficking as well, and although was unfortunately cut short due to the very fast-pace agenda, absolutely knocked it out of the park! What an incredible day to be with so many strong members of the community.
Please celebrate with us in wishing Pat Gallegos a Please celebrate with us in wishing Pat Gallegos a Happy Birthday! Pat serves as the Sex Trafficking Project Coordinator for the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women. August is National Breastfeeding & Chestfeeding Mo August is National Breastfeeding & Chestfeeding Month. This month, CSVANW & other organizations will center the healthy relationships that begin in the womb and continue to grow at birth between parent and infant. Honoring this important bond ensures a healthy home and community for our younger generations that will last a lifetime.

Our theme “Nourishing our Future & Homes: Rooted in Community & Land” is a call to connect with our lands, communities, and cultural teachings that normalize all the efforts and ways we have nurtured and provide for our little ones since time immemorial. As we continue to support each other we encourage all our relatives to nourish and protect our future at all times! We are showing up for our communities in many ways to keep them safe and healthy. Our Indigenous children are valuable, sacred, & critical to our future.

Join us in supporting and honoring healthy relationships that begin at birth by following us on social media and engaging with our posts. Together we must nourish and protect our future!
